Seemingly, in response to Balenciaga making a “replica” of IKEA’s signature blue FRAKTA bag and the short-lived craze of re-purposing IKEA’s signature blue bag, IKEA sat down with creative director/designer/DJ, Virgil Abloh at their Democratic Design Day Event.

Virgil is someone who makes cool happen with ease. This ability is exemplified with his brands Pyrex and more recently, Off-White. Virgil has been able to touch music, fashion, and now, home decor.

Virgil is quite excited about the collaboration–here are a few of his words regarding the collaboration:

“I love working with the best in class of any genre. IKEA is a brand that spans generations – that stands for something. To give this collection a young approach and pay respect to that DNA is my goal.”

In addition to the redesigned FRAKTA bag, Virgil will be designing a line of furniture for IKEA, geared towards the “Tumblr generation.” Watch below to see Virgil speak in a more in-depth manner on his work and the opportunity to work with IKEA.
